Kicking off Readers and Writers Workshop!

Hello friends and gator families! I can't really believe the first six weeks came and went already! We have been busy, busy, busy! I have so much to share with y'all! I have a lot of catching up to do. So first up we are taking it back a couple of weeks to the launching of our workshops. Starting with readers workshop.

We began the year getting the kids back in the routine of reading every single day. We had many days of discussing what strong readers do. We practiced, practiced, practiced until we all felt that we were being the strongest readers we could during our independent reading time.

The kids always amaze me at how well they embrace independent reading. I love assigned "book nooks" around the room to give the kids a little wiggled room and a space they feel is their own for the 20ish minutes we read. I always explain to them how I love to find a cozy place to read with peaceful music and dimmed lights.  They dive right in! Here are all of your cuties reading independently during readers workshop time.

In writers workshop we again just got back into the habit of writing daily. After about a week of simply practicing the writers workshop procedures, we began working on adjectives and verbs. We had a lesson on adjectives and they helped me describe adjectives for one of the pillows in the room.
They did such a great job with it. We talked about how using our five senses we can really come up with great describing adjectives for our writing.

This also happened to be on the first week of fall so we practiced writing adjectives using apples, which we also had as a snack that day. The kids independently came up with their own adjectives for their apple as they ate it and explored it with their five senses. They did a wonderful job, and loved the special snack!

Goodness, there's so much more I have to share with y'all! Until next time!
