FIELD DAY

Creek View is still a very young school. Only six years old! So this past year was our first year to really take on the task of holding a field day. While we had many wonderful plans, most of the plans never came to life because of the days and day (and months?) of rain that we had here in Texas. So we headed to plan B: a modified field day which took place mostly on the concrete outside and the gymnasium. The teachers had to be very hands on in helping run each station so I only captured a few photos! Enjoy!

SYNTHESIZING

Towards the end of the year we really made an effort to discuss with the kids: what is reading? Well reading is THINKING! While the kids constantly think while they read, they did not know how to notice it, think about it, and understand it. So we discussed that the word synthesis means to transform. And our thoughts are constantly transforming as we read. At first (when we make predictions) we begin with one general thought about a book, then as we read on our thoughts transform, and by the end of the story our original thought about the book has completely transformed to what we now KNOW about the book. The kids were brilliant as always with this and LOVED reading stories that were completely unfamiliar to them. Here are a couple of photos I caught of these lessons.
